The Power of Community

Want to improve your community? Located in Tacoma, Washington, Safe Streets Campaign is a non-profit organization that brings people together—sometimes neighbors who get to know each other for the first time—to take back their streets.  Through forming neighborhood block organizations, we help you plant the seed of grassroots, community leadership. That leadership helps hold communities together, and links them with can-do people in agencies and organizations to make neighborhoods safe.  Working together is the key to reversing crime trends in our neighborhoods. Safe Streets is here to help create better, safer communities throughout Pierce County.

Safe Streets Campaign's Superstar Awards

"Celebrating 23 Years of Strengthening Communities"

Each year Safe Streets Campaign recognizes and honors outstanding individuals and groups who willingly give their time and energy to make our community a safer, healthier place to live. They are presented with a "Superstar" award at our annual breakfast, which this year is on Thursday, September 6, 2012. Please consider the individuals or group you know who have made a difference. Then take the time to nominate them for the Safe Streets Superstar Award. Help us acknowledge those who give so freely of their time.  Go to our News and Events page to learn more and to download the Superstar Award application.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT August 7, 2012

Safe Streets Campaign is a proud co-sponsor of the 29th annual National Night Out Against Crime in Tacoma-Pierce County.

On Tuesday, August 7, 2012, you and your neighbors will join more than 9,000 other communities across America in taking a stand against crime. Groups will gather in the streets on which they live, holding block parties, barbecues, picnics, cookouts, safety fairs, and other events to celebrate their efforts to maintain safe and healthy neighborhoods. They will also discuss crime prevention, neighborhood safety, and ways in which they can promote non-violence through their active participation. We call this community mobilization and we know it is the most effective means of strengthening our neighborhood and deterring crime.

Go to our News and Events page to register your group and receive important information regarding National Night Out, tips for creating a successful party, children's safety and other important information.

Tacoma Power also encourages you to Light the Night and leave porch lights on for National Night Out. Free energy efficient compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and energy saving ideas are available to registered National Night Out participants in Tacoma Power's service area ONLY.  Find out how to receive your free CFLs on the National Night Out registration packet found on our News and Events page.

Registration must be received by July 20th, 2012.
