Engaging with youth at a high school level isn’t enough—Safe Streets committed to support Keithley and Stewart middle schools and help students take charge and make change through the ENGAGE program.
The ENGAGE program works with students and staff to enhance academic success by providing a safe, positive environment that fosters creative problem solving and encourages community leadership.
Any student at Keithley and Stewart middle schools can join the club, which welcomes diverse viewpoints and believes all students can succeed with support from their peers, family and community.
Youth Leading Change members serve as advisers for the club, joining teachers, coaches and Safe Streets youth mobilizers in supporting and supervising club meetings and activities.
Safe Streets and the Tacoma School District plan to extend the program to Jason Lee and Giaudrone middle schools. If your school does not have an ENGAGE chapter and you’re interested in starting one, please contact Operations Program Manager Wanda Rochelle at firstname.lastname@example.org.
