Safe Street Events

2022 Community Conference

November 12, 2022
9:00 am To 3:00 pm

Safe Streets will be bringing a selection of renowned speakers, local panelists and conduct workshops covering a variety of topics tailored to address community safety issues across Pierce County. This year’s keynote speaker will be Aqeela Sherrills, who is the co-founder of the Community Based Public Safety Collective, recognized as one of the nation’s most spirit-centered organizer and activist who has worked for three decades to promote community ownership of public safety and facilitate healing from violence in marginalized communities. This year’s event will also incorporate our Strengthening Community Safety Initiative with a mapping event from our collaboration with University of Washington -Tacoma facilitating an interactive approach through community mapping to identify unique community strengths, and share collective intelligence on how we can move community safety forward. In this initiative, we are partnering with diverse organizations strongly grounded in the communities that they represent. They include the Asia Pacific Cultural Center, Consejo Counseling and Referral Service, OASIS Youth Center, the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, Tacoma Community House and Tacoma Urban League. Due to the generous event sponsors, this event is free and open to public.
