In Youth Leading Change, young people take the lead! Students in middle and high schools come together to identify issues and take action for change. We are active in Tacoma Public Schools through our Community Chapter activities and JOBS253, and in Washington High School in the Franklin Pierce School District.

Students engaged in Youth Leading Change learn so many real world skills that will help them navigate adulthood. These include:

  • Conflict Resolution
  • Teamwork
  • Communication Skills
  • Project Planning

Action Projects

Safe Streets knows that middle and high school students see, know about, and experience a multitude of issues at school and in the community. Youth Leading Change is an opportunity to take charge and make change! Here are some of our recent YLC action projects:

  • Hygiene baskets with free menstruation and personal care products discretely available to all students throughout Washington High School.
  • School-wide scavenger hunt style clean-ups
